Warriors come close to shutting out undermanned Golden Tornadoes

MALDEN — The Warrior wrestling team earned its ninth victory of the season and didn’t have much difficulty in doing so against an undermanned Malden squad.

In fact, Wakefield nearly posted a shutout as it prevailed by a 41-6 score last night at Malden High School.

Wakefield is now 9-2 overall on the season.

There were only seven weight classes contested. There were also a pair of forfeits, one by each team.

The 170, 182, 195, 106, and 120 weight classes were not contested.

At 126, Brock Johnson, a freshman, pinned Ved Gray at 1:23.

Jake Goodchild, a junior, prevailed by technical fall (18-3) against Hasnot Moughai in the 132 bout.

At 138, Jack Spicer, a senior captain, pinned Anthony Johnson at 1:11.

Ryan Smith, a junior, also won by pin at the 145 weight class. Smith took down Mike Castro at 5:36.

Senior Matt Murdocca put three points on the scoreboard as he pulled out a 7-2 decision over Carlos Aranjo.

At 160, senior captain Ben Piercy won by forfeit.

Aiden Coleman, a junior, wrestled at 220 and he squeaked out a 3-2 decision over Junior Pericles.

At 285, senior Dan Dimeglio recorded Wakefield’s final six points as he pinned Deandre Fabrizio.

The Golden Tornadoes got their six points at the 113 weight class as Yvonne Ngyuen accepted a forfeit.

Wakefield will compete in a quad meet on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at Gloucester High School. The Warriors will wrestle Tyngsboro, Everett, and the host Fishermen.
