An avid golfer, swimmer and always enjoyed riding her Harley

MELROSE — Jeanne Louise Ryder, of Melrose, aged 76, passed suddenly on April 19 at Melrose Wakefield Hospital. Jeanne was born on November 6, 1947 to predeceased parents Madeline Ryder of Newfoundland and Melbourne Ryder Of Canada. Jeanne leaves behind her sister Valarie D’Amico and her husband Ronald D’Amico of Winthrop; her niece Kimberly McNeeley and husband Shane McNeeley of Wilmington; nephew Ronald D’Amico Jr of Winthrop; niece Jessica D’Amico of Chelmsford; great nephew Santino McNeeley of Wilmington; and great niece Arya Reid of Chelmsford. 

Jeanne graduated from Melrose High School Class Of 1965. After high school she went on to have a lucrative career with The New England Telephone Company, which later became Verizon. She was one of the first female utility pole workers in the company and the first in the Saugus location out of 100 men. She paved the way for future female outside technicians. She retired after 45 years in 2007. She was an avid golfer, swimmer and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. In her early years you could always find Jeanne on her Harley. She loved the wind in her hair and the sun on her face. Jeanne was an active member of the Melrose YMCA. She will forever be loved and missed. 

A graveside burial ceremony will be held on Tuesday, April 30 at Woodlawn Cemetery, 302 Elm St. in Everett at 11 a.m. Family asks all attendees to gather at the main entrance of the cemetery. For directions or to leave a message of condolence, please visit gatelyfh.com.
