After press time:
North Reading defeats Ipswich 149-147 (Oct. 9)

LYNNFIELD — On Tuesday afternoon, the North Reading High golf team defeated host Lynnfield, 175-171, at Sagamore Spring.
With that victory, the Hornets improved to 9-1.
“This was a good win for us,” said Hornets head coach Jon Kiniry. “We ended up playing the back nine holes, which we didn’t expect, but we were still able to win.”
Jason Curran and Tom Gazda led the team with 34 points each (Stableford scoring). Leo Romanski had 30 points while Conrad Gerber chipped in 28.
The other two scores that counted were Stephen Desisle, who had 25, while Liam Blanchette had 24.
For the upperclassmen on the roster this was a satisfying win since the Pioneers beat them twice last fall en-route to winning the Cape Ann League Kinney Division crown.
“It was a big win for our veterans players,” said Kiniry.
On Oct. 3, the Hornets beat host Pentucket, 181-143, at Haverhill County Club.
“I was surprised at the number of points we scored since it is a private course that only four of five of our players had played before,” pointed out Kiniry, as the Hornets last played there two years ago.
Desisle led the team in points with 33 while Liam Talbott was right behind him with 32.
Gerber and Gazda both had 30 while Curran and Romanski both notched 28 points.
North Reading wrapped up the regular season on Oct. 9 as they took on host Ipswich at Ipswich Country Club (results not available at press time).
The Hornets next event is the Division 3 North Sectional at Stow Acres (North Course) on Oct. 15 at 9 a.m.
North Reading will then participate in the CAL Championship at Far Corner in West Boxford on Oct. 18 starting at 9 a.m.
