LYNNFIELD — The District 16 Tournament has come to an end for the Little League All-Stars team. The All-Stars concluded the tournament with a 2-1 record.

The All-Stars defeated Salem 7-4 on July 9.

Luke Martinho pitched a great game on the mound and had a shutout heading into the sixth inning before he was pulled due to a pitch count.

Pat D’Amico had a big day at the plate, as he finished with two home runs and a double.

“Pat was unquestionably the best hitter in the tournament,” said All-Stars Manager Anthony Martinho.

Nick Marotta had a two-RBI double. Luke Martinho had an RBI single. Chase Carney went 2-2. Brenden Henehan had a single.

D’Amico, Carney and Nick Boustris each played a great defensive game.

Eliminated by Swampscott

The All-Stars finished the District 16 tournament by falling 7-4 to Swampscott at East Lynn July 10.

“We were one of five teams left in the district,” said Anthony Martinho.

Anthony Martinho said Chris Wythe “pitched his heart out” against Swampscott. Wythe threw for five innings before he ran out of pitches.

“(Wythe) is a tough competitor who is great under pressure,” said Anthony Martinho.

Tyler Scoppettuolo came in for relief and got the All-Stars out of a bases loaded jam in the fifth inning with a timely strike out.

“Tyler threw the ball well,” said Anthony Martinho.

The All-Stars were trailing Swampscott 7-3 after Anthony Martinho said the locals “made a few costly errors in the sixth inning.”

D’Amico continued his torrid hitting streak by going 3-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Luke Martinho had a double. Henehan was 2-2. Wythe had two hits. Aiden Burke and Tom Pascuccio each had a hit during the contest.

Luke Martinho threw out a runner at the plate center field and made the play of the tournament in the second inning by taking a home run away form a Swampscott hitter.

“He jumped up with his arm completely over the fence and pulled the ball back in for the out,” said Anthony Martinho.

While the District 16 Tournament has drawn to a close, the All-Stars will be playing the Bay State Games for the rest of the summer.
