MELROSE — Hugh M. Sturrock, 93, of Melrose, passed away on March 7, 2017.
He was the beloved husband of Mary E (Sexton) Sturrock. He was the devoted father of Jeanne Mahoney and her husband Richard; Hugh M Sturrock; Sheila A Sturrock; and was pre-deceased by Maureen E Gibbs. He was the loving grandfather of Caitlin Gibbs; Kristin Cataldo and her husband Joseph; and Timothy Mahoney. He was the great grandfather of Joseph Cataldo. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Jessie and Martin Sturrock, and was the brother of Peter Sturrock and Florence Henry, both pre-deceased.
Hugh was a graduate of East Boston High School. After graduating, he joined the Army Air Corps, where he proudly served in England in World War II. He married Mary E Sexton in 1950. Hugh worked at Boston Mutual Life Insurance for over 40 years before retiring in 1989. Upon retirement, he worked at Harvard University until the age of 90. Hugh was an avid swimmer, enjoyed gardening, visiting Maine with his family and cheered on all Boston sports teams.
Visiting Hours were held on Friday, March 10 at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home took place on Saturday, March 11, followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden.
