MELROSE — A Toyota SUV flipped on its side Wednesday morning, pinning one of the two occupants inside.
Firefighters rushed to an area between Potomac Street and the backyard of 239 Main St. just after 8 a.m. after an out-of-control Toyota RAV4 reportedly left Potomac Street, went through a fence and over a wall, landing on its right side. The woman driving the vehicle was able to climb out, but her passenger, also a woman, was injured and stuck inside.
Firefighters on Ladder 2, Engine 3 and Rescue 1 under the command of Capt. Peter Grant worked to steady the Toyota and remove the victim. She was placed on a stabilization board and both woman were taken to an area hospital for treatment of what were called minor injuries.
A fire official said the driver appeared to lose control of the Toyota as she turned from Main Street onto Potomac, which doesn’t have any houses on it.

On Tuesday morning around 6:45 firefighters went to the Unitarian Universalist Church, 70 West Emerson St., to extinguish a truck fire.

A handyman doing work at the church backed his 1999 Ford F-150 pickup onto the front lawn and noticed flames coming from underneath the dashboard. He quickly exited the vehicle and got help.
Fire crews on Ladder 2 under the command of Capt. James Gibson and Engine 2 under Lt. Alan Johnson doused the fire, cleaned up the scene and waited for the vehicle to be towed from the area. They were there for about 40 minutes.
The fire, officials said, was electrical in nature.
