READING — Albert S. Kelley, 95, of Reading, formerly of Wakefield, Weare, N.H., and Naples, Fla., died on March 7 at home.
Born in Somerville, Mass. on July 24, 1921, he was the son of the late Albert S. and Grace (McLean) Kelley.
Mr. Kelley was a graduate of Somerville High School and Fitchburg State Teacher’s College. He was a decorated Navy veteran of World War II. He served on a ship that was sunk by the Germans in Normandy, France.
After leaving the Navy he opened his own automotive repair shop, which he operated for several years before joining the teaching staff at Somerville Trade School where he was head of the Automotive Repair Shop. Mr. Kelley was a member of the Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Wakefield. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post 7721 in Naples, Fla., and the Irish-American Club In Naples.
Summer family vacations were spent traveling across the country in the family motor home. In 1968, he and his wife, Elizabeth, built Peacock Hill Campground, in Weare, N.H. and operated it until 1990.
Mr. Kelley was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth (Brown) Kelley. He is survived by his three sons, Stephen J. Kelley of Carlisle, Michael J. Kelley of Groton, N.H., and David J. Kelley of North Reading; two daughters, Patricia A. MacDonald of Goffstown, N.H. and Nancy E. Adams of Concord, N.H. and a sister, Mary Crepeau of Hubbardston. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Monday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 10 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Interment will be held in the spring.
