Devoted grandfather loved soccer

MEDFORD — Aldo P. Scarpelli passed away at the Massachusetts General Hospital after a long illness. He was 75. Born and raised in Zumpano, Calabria, Italy, he was the son of the late Giorgio and Luigina (Gerace) Scarpelli. He studied as a young man at the Diocesan Seminary at the Cathedral in Consenza. He came to the United States in 1968 and was joined by his wife and lived in Charlestown before settling in Medford over 43 years ago. He enjoyed a long career as a chemical engineer, retiring from Chomerics. He loved soccer, coached Medford Youth Soccer and was a huge fan of Juventus. He was devoted to his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was active at St. Francis Parish for many years where he served as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion.

The beloved husband of Adelina (DeVita) Scarpelli, he was a devoted father to Gina Prisco and her husband Michael of North Reading, George Scarpelli and his wife Dina of Medford, Lisa Scire and her husband Frank of Stoneham, John Scarpelli and his companion Shane Lazar of Medford. He was the loving grandfather of Matthew (Aldo’s best friend) Michela, Nicholas, Catherine, John Peter, Talia, Gianna and Frankie, he was a dear brother of Gaetana, Annunziata and Francesco all of Italy, and the late Eugenio and Giuseppe Scarpelli.

His funeral was held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Saturday, Oct. 10, followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford.  Services concluded with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
