WAKEFIELD — Anthony J. Puopolo, 82, of Wakefield died Friday, Jan. 23, at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Born in Malden on May 14, 1932, he was the son of the late Anthony J. and Margaret (Peleo) Puopolo.

Mr. Puopolo was a graduate of Malden High School, Class of 1950. He then served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He had worked for the Malden Evening News and was a retired printer.

He was an avid tennis player and belonged to the Winchester Tennis Club.

Mr. Puopolo was the beloved husband of Gerry Puopolo. He was the loving father of Lisa P. Brown and her husband Thomas of Middleton and Paul A. Puopolo and his wife Karen of Pittsburg. He was the brother of Donald Puopolo of Malden and the late Angelo Puopolo. He is also survived by his five grandchildren: Connor, Gillian, Anthony, Jacklyn and Melissa.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 o’clock.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 3 to 7 p.m. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
