Happy summer! Here in New England, we know how to appreciate our hot, hazy days of summer. We spend a lot of time outside, enjoying the sunshine. For many of us, that means yard work and gardening. Most of us will enjoy a cookout and fireworks display for the 4th of July.
What do these activities have in common? Loud noises that we need to protect our ears from! Loud noises, like lawn mowers, weed-whackers, music and fireworks, can be very damaging to our hearing if the proper precautions are not taken. No matter our age, it is extremely important to use hearing protection. You can get ear plugs at the local drug store, heavy duty ear muffs at stores like Home Depot and Lowe’s. We make custom hearing protection here at Atlantic Audiology, so if that is something you are interested in, please let us know! Do you wear hearing aids? Not to worry! The latest hearing aid technology is advanced enough to quiet down very loud sounds, while still making them audible.
Being active in humid weather can also be a threat to your hearing aids. There are quite a few products out there to keep your hearing aids safe from sweat and dust while you stay active. One of them is a type of synthetic sock that slips over a behind the ear style hearing aid. Another is a jar to store the hearing aids in overnight that thoroughly dries the hearing aids. These products can also be helpful if you are spending a lot of time in a humid environment, like Cape Cod or Florida.
We are happy to further discuss which products may extend the life of your hearing aids, so come see us or give us a call. We look forward to hearing from you!
