LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield and Stoneham boys’ basketball teams, longtime Division 3 North rivals, have teamed up to host a youth basketball clinic this fall.

The clinic will take place on five Mondays, beginning on Monday, Sept. 19. The clinic will also take place on Sept. 26, Oct. 3, Oct. 17 and Oct. 24. The clinic is for children, both boys’ and girls’, ages 7-14. The clinic will run from 6-7:30 p.m. at Stoneham Central Middle School, 101 Central St., Stoneham.

The clinic costs $100 for five sessions and there is a $25 per diem rate. There are sibling discounts available for families.

The clinic is designed to help youth basketball players become better players. Lynnfield head coach Scott MacKenzie and Stoneham head coach Jim Bakerman will be stressing the fundamentals to the clinic’s participants while also encouraging youngsters to have fun.

The two coaches are encouraging players of different abilities to participate in the clinic. The two coaches will also try to dictate the level of instruction to the individual clinic participants.

According to the clinic’s daily schedule, the active warm-up will take place from 6-6:10 p.m. Ball-handling drills will take place from 6:10-6:25 p.m. Team shooting will take place from 6:25-6:40 p.m.

The clinic will also feature drill stations from 6:40-7:15 p.m. The drill stations are passing, lay-ups, form shooting, footwork, rebounding and individual/team defense. Competitive drills and games will take place from 7:15-7:30 p.m.

The goal of the clinic is to help young boys and girls develop their basketball skills, make new friends within the local basketball community and have fun.
