Warriors travel to Lynn Classical tonight for a Div. 2 North preliminary round contest
WAKEFIELD — The Div. 2 North state tournament pairings were announced on Saturday for boys’ basketball, and for the Wakefield Memorial High boys’ hoop team, that means a preliminary round game tonight at Lynn Classical.
The Warriors (9-9) were seeded 17th in the 21-team Div. 2 North sectional while Lynn Classical (11-11) is ranked 16th. The two teams will face each other tonight at 7 p.m. in a preliminary round game at Lynn Classical.
Wakefield and the Rams have faced each other in the tournament before. Two years ago, Wakefield won a 64-63 quarterfinal game at the Charbonneau Field House with Chris Calnan making a jumper right before the buzzer.
The winner of tonight’s game will face top-ranked Danvers (21-0) in a first round contest which is scheduled for Friday night at 7 p.m. at Danvers High School.
Also in the Div. 2 North field from the Middlesex League are Arlington (19-1), Belmont (15-7), Winchester (12-8), Woburn (12-8), Wilmington (10-10) and Melrose (9-11).
The second-seeded Spy Ponders host a first round game on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Arlington High School. Arlington will play the winner of preliminary round game between 15th-ranked Wilmington and 18th-seeded Marblehead (10-10) tomorrow night in Wilmington.
Belmont is ranked sixth and the Marauders will host 11th-seeded Winchester in a first round game on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Belmont High School.
Woburn is seeded 12th and the Tanners will face 21st-ranked Dracut (5-15) in a preliminary round game tonight at 7 p.m. at Woburn High School. The winner will face fifth-ranked Salem (15-5) in a first round game on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Salem High School.
Melrose is seeded 19th and the Red Raiders will face 14th-ranked Gloucester tonight at 7 p.m. in preliminary round game at Gloucester High School. The winner will take on third-seeded Tewksbury (18-4) in a first round game on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Tewksbury High School.
The dates, times and venues of the quarterfinal, semifinal and final rounds are yet to be determined.
Watertown (11-8) and Stoneham (5-14) are in the 13-team Div. 3 North field.
Watertown is seeded sixth and the Red Raiders will host 11th-ranked Bedford in a first round game on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in Watertown.
Stoneham is ranked 13th and the Spartans will take on fourth-seeded Lynnfield (15-5) in a first round game on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Lynnfield High School.
Like the Div. 2 North tourney, most of the dates, times and venues of the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals of the Div. 3 North sectional are yet to be announced.
