Warriors are well represented in Div. 4 championship meet

BOSTON — The Wakefield Memorial High boys’ indoor track team set its sights on doing well in the Middlesex League which it did with a 4-1 record. Now the Warriors are setting their sights on performing at a high level in the state meets.
Wakefield has 18 entries and all three relay teams in the Div.4 championship meet which will be held today at 4:30 p.m. at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.
In the 55 meter dash, senior Eric Chi (6.77 seconds), senior Kevin Russo and junior Dan Sallade (6.98 seconds) are seeded 10th, 26th and 36th among the 43 sprinters.
Brian Smith, a freshman, is seeded 17th in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:28.47. There are 36 runners in the event.
Wakefield has four runners that have qualified in the 1000 meter run which consists of 31 qualifiers. Junior Adam Roberto (2:44.26), sophomore Matt Greatorex (2:44.31), junior Ryan Sullivan (2:46.23) and junior Nick McGee (2:48.13). They are seeded 12th, 14th, 22nd and 31st, respectively.
There are four Warriors among the 28 qualifiers in the mile. They are senior Alec Rodgers (4:44.56), Roberto (4:44.81), McGee (4:45.33) and senior Rich Custodio (4:47.59) and they are ranked 13th, 15th, 16th and 22nd.
Custodio and sophomore Tom Lucey are the two Warrior qualifiers in the 27-runner field in the two mile. Custodio is seeded 17th at 10:24.20 and Lucey is seeded 26th at 10:34.25.
Wakefield is seeded 11th in the 4×200 relay among 33 teams at 1:36.72. The runners could include Chi, Sallade, sophomore Henry Stikeman, Russo, sophomore Marc Biennestin, junior Carmen Sorrentino, senior Joe Boudreau and junior Dan Summers.
The Warriors are ranked eighth among 22 teams with a time of 3:40.13. The candidates to run the event include Boudreau, junior TJ Sellers, Summers, Sorrentino, Biennestin and Smith.
Wakefield’s 4×800 relay team is seeded fifth among 15 teams at 8:29.67. The runners could include Greatorex, Roberto, Rodgers, Sullivan, McGee, Custodio, Smith and junior Jack Stevens.
In the long jump, Biennestin is ranked 23rd among 33 jumpers with a distance of 19-7.
Three Warriors have qualified in the shot put which consists of 23 throwers. Junior Cole Mottl (45-1), senior Jared Regan (41-8), and junior Joe Connell (41-0) are seeded eighth, 18th and 23rd.
