LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield High boys’ tennis won its only match this week, improving the Pioneers’ overall record this season to 3-0 and Cape Ann League record to 2-0.
The Pioneers beat guest North Reading 5-0 at Lynnfield Middle School on April 24.
At first singles, junior Max Rothermund won in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.
“When he came to the net in the third set, he did well,” said Pioneers head coach Joe Dunn, as Rothermund improved his individual record this season to 3-0.
Junior Arlex Correa won his second singles match 6-1, 6-1, to also improve to 3-0. Junior Colin Lamusta played at third singles and won, 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles play, the first team of sophomore Mike Gentile and junior Andrew Seelig won their match in two sets, 6-2, 7-5.
The second doubles duo of junior Joe Pavao and junior Lorenzo Russo also won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
On Wednesday, April 26, the Pioneers visit Amesbury and then host Manchester-Essex on Thursday, April 27. On Monday, May 1, Lynnfield visits Pentucket.
All three matches will start at 3:30 p.m.
The Pioneers will also participate in the Cape Ann League Open this Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Lynnfield High, North Reading High and the Lynnfield Middle School will all be host for the event.
The event was supposed to have taken place last Saturday but was postponed due to bad weather.
