MELROSE — Donations to the Melrose Emergency Fund approached $35,000 this week, as the holiday fundraiser continues. “I continue to be overwhelmed by the donations we have received, and the many kind words that come with them,” said Mayor Gail Infurna. “Many people drop off their donations in person or include a card with a holiday greeting, which is a nice tradition. I love how people are bringing the holiday spirit to our office along with their gifts.”

The purpose of the Emergency Fund is to provide one-time help to Melrose residents experiencing financial emergencies. Most of the help the fund provides is basic needs—food, fuel, and utilities. The fund depends entirely on donations from the public, and every penny goes to direct aid to Melrose residents. There is no overhead, because city staff administers the fund as part of their regular duties. All applications are confidential.
