MELROSE — The Melrose High School football team is going to the Super Bowl on Dec. 5.

This is an opportunity to showcase all of the great achievements of the city’s football team, band, cheerleaders, student body and staff and to celebrate all schools and the great things that are happening every day.

Starting on Monday and going on to the game on Saturday will be Melrose Red Raiders week for the City of Melrose. City officials are planning some great activities:

· Starting on Monday, the City Hall tree will be lit in brilliant red and white to celebrate Melrose High School.

· Local officials want to make this a city-wide event. Via the Chamber of Commerce, local officials are inviting local businesses to decorate their windows and citizens to decorate their homes to show their Red Raider spirit. Residents can e-mail pictures of their decorations to mayorsoffice@cityofmelrose.org or Tweet them to the city Twitter account, @CityofMelrose and the city will re-Tweet them and put them on the city’s blog for people to see Red Raider team spirit.

· Residents should follow the city’s blog next week as the city does feature stories on the Melrose High School football seniors, band members and cheerleaders during the run-up to the game.

· Next Friday, Dec. 4, city-wide, from the ECC to Melrose High School, from the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital to all local businesses to City Hall, will be Red and White Day. Mayor Rob Dolan encourages everyone in the city to wear red and white. Residents can Tweet pictures of their family and co-workers dressed in red and white and the city will re-Tweet them and put them on the blog.

· Melrose Red Raider Week will culminate on Friday, Dec. 4, with Home for the Holidays, including the tree lighting on the City Hall lawn at 6 p.m., the stroll down Main Street at 6:30 p.m., and the arrival of Santa immediately afterward.

· Mayor Dolan and locals officials encourage people to go to Gillette Stadium on Dec. 5 as Melrose takes on Dartmouth for the 2015 MIAA Division 3 Super Bowl.
