Dorothy-Lucas-obit-webMELROSE — Dorothy “Dotty” Lucas of Melrose passed away peacefully on February 7 at Emory Hospital in Georgia. She was surrounded by her family.

The wife of the late Matthew “Matt” Lucas, she was 86.

Born and raised in Malden, she attended Chevrus High School. After her marriage to Matthew Lucas she made Melrose her home. She recently moved to Georgia to live near her daughter but remained in constant contact with all of her “bingo” friends as well as her fellow residents at The Fuller House and Levi Gould.

She was an outgoing person and loved to be around people. She also had quite an entrepreneurial spirit. In the 60’s she opened the Shoe Bazaar in Melrose which she operated for over 10 years. Feeling that she needed another sense of adventure she opened an antique store in Greenwood, Something Old, Something New.

Dotty and Matt loved to go for “rides in the car” and their love for antiques took them to flea markets across the U.S.

Dotty is survived by her children Karen Lucas and her partner Paula Smith of Georgia, her son Matthew Lucas III of Melrose, her two grandchildren Jessica Marie and Alexa Rae Lucas of Stoneham, whom she adored, and Gail Lasala of Stoneham.

A funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 2 at St. Mary’s Church followed by interment at Wyoming Cemetery. Friends are invited to join the family in the church hall from 10:30 a.m. to noon for a Celebration of Life following the interment.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s or the Humane Society.
