The Early Childhood Center at the Doyle School is closed today due to concerns over illness. School Superintendent Kim Smith issued the following statement to Wakefield school staff and parents late yesterday afternoon.

Dear Wakefield Community,

This message is to inform you that the Early Childhood Center at Doyle will be closed tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 11. During the course of this week, some students and staff at Doyle have become sick and we are concerned about the contagious nature of the illness.

In consultation with the Board of Health and Health Director for the Town of Wakefield, we have decided that it is prudent to close the Doyle School on Friday. This will give us the opportunity to clean the school thoroughly and allow for sick students and staff to get well and prevent illness from spreading.

At this time there are no reports of the illness at other schools, but we will continue to monitor all district schools. Regardless of your child’s school, we recommend that parents keep children at home if they present symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, headache and fever.

Sincerely,

Kim Smith

Superintendent of Schools
