WAKEFIELD — For a person whose life has been touched by the Lake in some way, a custom engraved brick placed in the flagpole plaza at Col. Connelly Park may be perfect holiday gift. The Bricks by the Lake program has announced that donors who submit applications by Dec. 1 will be guaranteed a formal certificate appropriate for gift giving during the holidays. The certificates will be mailed no later than Dec. 15.
New engraved bricks are installed every spring into the plaza, which now contains hundreds of memorials and messages. It is a little piece of Wakefield history for Lake walkers to read and reminiscence as they pass the area. Proceeds from brick sales are used for betterments of Lakeside parklands. The new playground for young children at Colonel Connelly Park was paid for primarily with proceeds from brick sales. So purchasing a brick is really a double gift.
Applications may be obtained in several ways: By downloading on FOLQ’s website, folq.org; by leaving a message on FOLQ voicemail at 781-979-2400, or by request at the Town Clerk’s office at Wakefield Town Hall.
Bricks by the Lake is program authorized by Wakefield Selectmen and administered by Colonel Connelly Park committee through the Friends of Lake Quannapowitt.
