WAKEFIELD — Former longtime educator, head cross country and assistant track coach John A. DiComandrea (”Coach Deke”) will be honored in an upcoming ceremony to take place on Monday, Aug. 15 at noon at Wakefield Memorial High School.
On that day, a granite marker recognizing his many accomplishments as a coach and educator, as well as those of his athletes, will be dedicated.
Coach Deke and his athletes have been recognized many times over the years at the local, state and national levels. A number of his teams have gone on to win league and state titles during his 47 years of coaching.
During his tenure as an educator, he taught industrial arts to thousands of students from the 1950s into the 1990s, leaving his students with skills and knowledge that would last them a lifetime.
The dedication ceremony will take place on the hillside overlooking the Beasley Track and Field at Wakefield Memorial High School. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held in the Charbonneau Field House.
Although faced with some major health issues over the past year, it is hoped that Coach Deke will be able to attend.
