WWII veteran was AMICA Insurance legal counsel

Obit-Toothaker-webPEABODY — George R. Toothaker Jr., 89, of Peabody and formerly of Wakefield, died Monday, Aug. 17, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.

Born in Malden on July 20, 1926, he was the son of the late George R. and Eunice (Doucette) Toothaker.

George was raised in Malden and was a graduate of Malden High School, Class of 1944 and also of Boston University and Boston University School of Law. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was retired legal counsel for AMICA Insurance Co., where he had worked for 42 years. He was a member of the Sterling Lodge of Masons in Malden. George was an avid hunter and enjoyed the activity in both Maine and Nova Scotia.

He was the husband of the late Pauline (Pyke) Toothaker. He was the father of Ray Toothaker and his wife Nadia of Wakefield, Jim Toothaker and his wife LuAnn of North Reading, Lynne Stratton and her husband Kevin of Vermont and Scott Toothaker and his wife Sabrina of Stoneham. He was the brother of Donald Toothaker and his wife Jeanette of Maine and the late Robert and Kenneth Toothaker. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. George was the dear friend and longtime companion of Barbara Kovacs.

His funeral service will be held in the Brooksby Village Chapel, 100 Brooksby Village Dr., Peabody on Thursday, Aug. 20, at 10 o’clock. Visitation for relatives and friends was held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m.
