WAKEFIELD — The Wakefield Police Department congratulates Sergeant George Thistle on his retirement effective July 29, 2015.

Sergeant Thistle started as a patrolman in 1983 and was promoted to sergeant in 1988. He spent 18 years with the regional SWAT team, during which time he competed in multiple event competitions across the country. He also served as a lead firearms instructor and armorer for the Wakefield department for many years.

Sgt. Thistle was comprehensive with every call for service, always taking the time to fully listen to the needs of the individual. He was well versed in officer safety and tactical situations, which enhanced the protection of staff as well as the citizens involved.

His colleagues wish him well after over 32 years of service to the Department and the Town of Wakefield.
