LYNNFIELD — The girls’ soccer team is headed back to Division 3 North sectional tournament after the Pioneers won all three of its games last week.

“I am really happy,” said Pioneers head coach Mark Vermont. “The girls worked hard and battled through some midseason adversity to get into the tournament.”

Defeats Georgetown

The Pioneers (8-4-2) began last week defeating Georgetown 4-0 Oct. 11.

Junior Grace Sperling scored the locals’ first goal five minutes into the first half, assisted by captain Sydney Santosuosso.

Junior Kate Mitchell scored the locals’ second goal at the 8:58 mark of the first half. Senior Caroline Buckley and senior captain Liz Reed were credited with the assists.

Reed gave the Pioneers a 3-0 lead 15 minutes into the second half after being set up by junior Olivia Montanile.

Reed scored the locals’ final goal with two minutes remaining in the game.

“I thought we did a nice job passing to feet and controlling the tempo,” said Vermont.

Sails past Vikings

The Pioneers kept rolling and defeated Triton 4-2 Oct. 13.

Reed scored the locals’ first goal 25 minutes into the first half, giving the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead.

Sophomore Emma Montanile scored the locals’ second goal three minutes before halftime, giving the locals a 2-0 lead at the break.

Junior Kate Mitchell gave the Pioneers a 3-0 lead five minutes into the second half. Emma Montanile was credited with the assist.

Emma Montanile scored her second goal of the game eight minutes into the second half. Reed and Mitchell were credited with the assists.

“Emma had a busy day,” said Vermont.

Triton scored two late goals. The Vikings scored its first goal with 13 minutes remaining in the game. Triton scored its second goal off a penalty kick with two minutes remaining in the game.

Vermont commended the Pioneers’ performance against Triton.

“We did a nice job with our passing,” said Vermont. “We have been emphasizing that in practice because our passing has been hot and cold this year. We were more consistent this past week.”

Defeats Wayland

The Pioneers concluded last week defeating Wayland 1-0 Oct. 15.

Reed scored the locals’ only goal of the game 24 minutes into the first half. Captain Liz Shaievitz was credited with the assist.

Vermont said junior Juliana Passatempo, senior Christa Romano, Olivia Montanile, junior Christina Montanile and junior Hannah Filipe played excellent defense against Wayland.

Junior Mackenzie O’Neill tallied five saves in net.

“My defense played a great game,” said Vermont.

Vermont said he was pleased with the way the locals played against Wayland.

“It was a great team win,” said Vermont.
