LYNNFIELD — The girls’ tennis team remains undefeated this season after the Pioneers won their only match last week.
The Pioneers (6-0) defeated Amesbury 5-0 on Monday, April 20.
Sophomore Sarah Mezini defeated her first singles opponent in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
Senior captain Kelley Nevils cruised to a decisive two-set victory in second singles, prevailing 6-0, 6-0.
Senior captain Izzy Figucia dispatched her third singles opponent in two sets, 6-0, 6-1.
In first doubles, junior Olivia Skelley and sophomore Katie Nevils defeated their counterparts in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
Seniors Melanie Richard and Kayla Collins defeated their second doubles opponents 10-1 in an abbreviated match due to weather.
“The match was already decided when second doubles took the court,” said head coach Craig Stone. “Playing conditions were cold and raw, so second doubles played an abbreviated match. Richard and Collins are seniors, four-year team members and returning letter winners.”
Upcoming matches
The Pioneers faced Triton on Monday, April 27, taking place after deadline. The locals host archrival Manchester-Essex in a league match on Wednesday, April 29, beginning at 3:45 p.m. The Pioneers defeated Manchester-Essex 4-1 in a non-league match on April 16.
Lynnfield hosts Swampscott in a rematch of the Division 3 North finals on Friday, May 1, beginning at 3:30 p.m. The Pioneers defeated The Big Blue 3-2 in the D-3 North finals last year.
Additionally, the Pioneers travel to Pentucket on Monday, May 4, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
