WAKEFIELD — Grace R. Short, 94, of Wakefield and formerly of Waltham and Springfield, died Thursday, Dec. 1 at the Care One in Newton.

Born in Cohasset of July 6, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Charles Warren and Grace Rose (Mulvey) Stevens.

Mrs. Short was a graduate of Peabody High School, Class of 1940, and later of Burdett College, Class of 1942, and Massachusetts School of Art. She had been employed with Union Carbide, Manhattan Project of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Mackay Radio Marine Division in Boston and NYC, General Motors Apollo Project and, most recently, as an academic administrator at Brandeis University.

In addition to her vocational interests, Mrs. Short was involved in many organizations, including: New England Rose Society, Boston Chapter Business and Professional Women’s Club, Girl Scouts of America, Bay Path and Colonial Council Camp Councilor, Troop Organizer and Troop Leader. She was also a member of St. Joseph Church of Wakefield where she had served as a Eucharistic minister. She also volunteered her time at Bear Hill Nursing Home, the American Red Cross, Malden Hospital and as a tutor of the Adult Literacy Program in Wakefield.

She was the mother of Marjorie A. Short of Peabody, Kathleen G. Short of Fairhaven and Nancy M. Ward of Boston. She was the sister of the late Marjorie L. Stevens. She is also survived by her two grandchildren: Caitlin and Leland Ward and their father, Emil Ward.

Funeral Mass in St. Anthony Church, 10 Summer St., Cohasset on Wednesday at 11. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery in Cohasset.
