Due to the number of inquiries organizers of the West Side Social Club Fourth of July’s events have received, here are a few guidlelines you need to follow to participate.
1) Fishing Derby: All children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration will be held on the lower common, on the shore of Lake Quannapowitt beginning at 7 a.m.
2) Pet Parade: This event is strictly for children. Please do not attempt to enter if your pet is not accompanied by a child. It is appreciated if an adult accompanies any small children. Just put a bow on your pet and enjoy. (Bow is optional)
3) Cart, Tricycle, Scooter, Bicycle, Doll Carriage Parade: It is recommended to decorate your entry the theme of this year’s events which is “USA – United We Stand. ” However, feel free to decorate in a theme that is appropriate.
All entries are judged for Best Decorated, Best Theme and Most Original.
**Please note: This is a Children’s Event! Please be sure that the entry shows in some way that the child has actually contributed to the decorating. The reasoning is to be fair to the children that do the decorating themselves and to have to compete against entries that have been done solely by the parents. So get creative and work with your child for some quality time together to create a great entry.
4) Diaper Derby / Running Races: Children participating in the races will be held on the lower common. Toddlers who are not yet walking but are crawling are eligible for the Diaper Derby. Children up to 12 years of age are eligible for the running races. This event is broken down into age groups. Event ends with Mom and Dad races.
**Please remember, our judges are volunteers and are there to identify the first, second and third place winners in the races. We ask politely to refrain from approaching the judges as their word is final.
5) Canoe / Kayak Race: This event begins at the Head of the Lake (Colonel Connelly Park).
Registration is required. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Life
Jackets are required to participate.
The West Side Social Club 4th of July Committee looks forward to seeing everyone for another year of fun, especially for the children of Wakefield and surround areas. Come on down and enjoy the beginning of what promise to be a great day of events.
