MELROSE—Melrose’s Ryan Hanson continues to wow in as a USA Junior Olympic gymnast.

The eight-year old wrapped up another incredible season in the Level 5 division, which was capped off by a bronze medal finish at the 2017 USA Mens Gymnastics Region 6 championships.

The event took place at Thames Valley Gymnastics in North Franklin, CT on Sunday, April 2. Ryan, son of Mark and Shannan of Melrose, came in first on the floor and third overall while competing in floor, rings, pummel horse, high bar, parallel bars, vault. Ryan’s best event was floor which he scored a 10.7 on and a total of 60.300 points.

Last year Ryan was Regional Champion at Level 4. And his success continued this year when he placed third at states. When asked what it was like to earn a regional medal he commented, “I was really exited and astonished.”

Ryan considers the mushroom (pummel horse) his favorite event. “My friend Abdelrahim is really good at mushroom too and it is fun competing with him.” As for the best part of gymnastics? “I like meeting all the other gymnasts and making new friends.”
