Ziavras-obit-webMELROSE — Helen (Sougarides) Ziavras, 52, of Melrose, died on June 19.

Helen was born in Boston on Dec. 26, 1962 to Costas and the late Aristea (Tziallas) Sougarides. Helen graduated from West Roxbury High and attended Northeastern University.

In 1987, she married Nickolas Ziavras and later moved to Melrose to raise their two children, Evan and Athena. She loved attending all of her children’s games and events and was not shy about bragging about her kids to her friends.

She loved working at Trader Joe’s and her charming character was valued both professionally and personally by co-workers and customers alike.

She also was an avid reader and had a passion for cooking.

Helen loved eating lobster rolls along the seacoast and one of her favorite spots was Marblehead Neck.

Nothing came before her family, whom she loved with all of her heart.

Helen was the caring sister to Peter Sougarides and his wife Elaine of Walpole, Ethel Sougarides of New York and Voula Koktsidis and her husband Dimitri of Norwood. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends, in addition to many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose on Wednesday, June 24, from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral service was held at St. Athanasius Greek Orthodox Church, 4 Appleton St., Arlington on Thursday, June 25, at 10 a.m.

Interment at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
