MELROSE — Henry A. Rappa Sr., 73, a Melrose resident for 50 years, died July 16, 2017.

Henry was born in Revere on April 10, 1944 to Henry and Marie (Vigliotti) Rappa. He was raised in Revere and attended vocational school in Everett. Henry loved cars and spent 35 years working as an auto mechanic for Broadway Motor Service.

After retiring, Henry began a second career, spanning 19 years, as a valued assistant at his son’s Melrose law office, where he always greeted clients with a smiling face. Henry loved spending time at his home on Cape Cod, particularly enjoying family time while boating on nice summer days.

He also was an avid Red Sox fan, and attended many games both at Fenway Park and in Florida where he enjoyed an annual spring training trip with his son. He enjoyed many years with his dog Baxter. However, the greatest passion in Henry’s life was his three grandchildren who provided him with endless joy. He was their “Papa,” and he cherished every moment with them. He was a true family man, and will be greatly missed by all those he left behind.

Henry was the beloved husband of the late Carol (Lavoie) Rappa. He was the loving father of Henry A. Rappa Jr. and his wife Cristin of Melrose, and the late Kevin J. Rappa. He was the devoted grandfather of Caroline, Lauren and Kevin.

Visiting hours were held on Thursday, July 20. A funeral procession from the Gately Funeral Home was held on Friday, July 21 at 9 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St., Melrose. Interment took place in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Henry’s memory to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123. To leave an online message of condolence, visit gatelyfh.com.
