Waldroupobit-webWAKEFIELD — John C. Waldroup, a resident of Wakefield for 38 years, formerly a resident of Reading for 15 years, died Nov. 28 at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford. He was 93 years of age.

John was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Feb. 14, 1923, the son of the late Fletcher C. and Lillian (Johnson) Waldroup. John was a retired employee of Market Forge Co. in Everett. He was an active member of the Old South United Methodist Church in Reading and served on several of its committees.

He worked as a life guard at the Wakefield YMCA for over 25 years. He enjoyed swimming, golfing and gardening.

John proudly served his country as a naval aviator during World War II and was honorably discharged with the rank of Ensign.

He was the beloved husband of the late Albertina V. “Tina” Waldroup. He was the devoted father of John C. Waldroup Jr. of Peabody, Richard A. Waldroup and his wife Stephanie of Yarmouth, Maine and Pamela Sarno and her husband Edward of Waltham. He was the loving grandfather of seven and great-grandfather of four.

His funeral service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. at the Old South United Methodist Church, 6 Salem St., Reading.

Burial with military honors to follow at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn Street), Reading.
