Director Will Karvouniaris said that the audience will love the production because it is “the perfect musical.”

“It features every genre of music,” he said. “It makes people laugh, makes them cry and it’s just plain fun. The cast is incredible, and I continue to be blown away by the talent in Wakefield.”

Karvouniaris added that the additional 35 plus youths in the children’s choir add a new element to the production.

“Joseph is the perfect introduction to theater for them,” he said.

The production stars Jackson Kehoe as Joseph and features more than 35 elementary and middle school students from all Wakefield schools. Music is under the direction of Ana Morel, and choreography is by Maura Lyons.

The story of Joseph and his amazing dreamcoat is a reimagining of the Biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, his 11 brothers — and the coat of many colors.

Told entirely through song with the help of a main character narrator, the musical follows preferred son Joseph. After being sold into slavery by his brothers, he ingratiates himself with Egyptian noble Potiphar but ends up in jail after refusing the amorous advances of Potiphar’s wife. While imprisoned, Joseph discovers his ability to interpret dreams, and he soon finds himself in front of the mighty but troubled, Elvis-inspired Pharaoh. Joseph’s solution to Egypt’s famine elevates him to Pharaoh’s right-hand man and reunites him with his family.

The musical is full of catchy songs in a variety of styles, from a parody of French ballads (“Those Canaan Days”), to country-western (“One More Angel in Heaven”) and calypso (“Benjamin Calypso”), along with the unforgettable classics “Any Dream Will Do” and “Close Every Door.”

Karvouniaris called the show “one of the most enduring of all time.”

In addition to Kehoe, other cast members include Emily Cierpial, Hannah DiTonno, Samantha Prosperi, Ava Sies, James Connors, Matthew Blois, Megan Sullivan, John Amalfitano, Ryan Tarpey, Sam Bianchet-David, Sam Simpson, George Simion, Jay Parece, Theo Cheever, John Roche, Carter Maargolis, James Connors, CJ Hagen, Melydia McCall, Elisabeth Nordeen, Sydney Gallivan, Lauren Merceer, Emily Flores, Juliana Simons, Sofia Bruce, Megan Sullivan, Nina DiCarlo, Braelyn McLaughlin and Ellianna Ouellette.
