‘Mayor of Cutter Street’ was talented gardener

Obit-Costa-webWAKEFIELD — Joseph L. Costa, 86, of Wakefield died Monday, Nov. 2, at Woodbriar of Wilmington.
Born in Wakefield on May 26, 1929, he was the son of the late Joseph Edward and Mary (Medeiros) Costa.
Mr. Costa was a longtime Wakefield resident and was a devoted member of St. Joseph Church. He was a member of the parish’s healing group.
Joe was known in his neighborhood as the “Mayor of Cutter Street.” Joe loved his family, food and faith and had a passion for gardening.
He was the husband of the late Irma L. (Muse) Costa. He was the father of Stephen Costa of Londonderry, N.H. and the late Sharon Costa Barron of Wilmington. He was the grandfather of Pamela Barron of Wilmington. He was the brother of Mary “Babe” Silva of Carver and the late Alice Costa Rainho of Medford.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Saturday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 a.m. Interment will be private. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.
