WAKEFIELD — Joseph P. Schwarz, 84, a lifelong Wakefield resident died on Saturday, Jan. 17, at his residence.

Born in Wakefield on March 10, 1930, he was the son of the late Vera N. (Dinan) Schwarz.

Mr. Schwarz was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1947, and was co-captain of the 1947 Warrior baseball team that played at Fenway Park in Boston. He had worked for Local 33 Carpenters Union in Boston, Schofield Foundation in Wakefield for 25 years and had retired as a custodian for the Lexington Public School System.

Mr. Schwarz had served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of both the Wakefield V.F.W. and the Wakefield Elks.

Mr. Schwarz was the husband of the late Charlotte M. (Doucette) Schwarz. He is survived by his three sons: Joseph P. Schwarz Jr. of Wakefield, Thomas J. Schwarz and his wife Renee of Seabrook, N.H. and William A. Schwarz of Virginia; his three daughters: Maureen P. Burgess and her husband Neil, Karen M. Broderick and Vicki M. Crockett, all of Wakefield; his four sisters: Marie Trujillo of New Hampshire, Cory, Gail and Bonnie, all of Connecticut; his 10 grandchildren; Daniel, Jessica, Thomas and Michael Schwarz, Kristine and Ashley Burgess, Katie and Joseph Crockett, Jason Campbell and Ryan Brazell. Mr. Schwarz is also survived by three great-grandchildren.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., on Wednesday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
