MacIndewar-webMELROSE — Josephine (DiMauro) MacIndewar, 80, of Melrose, died at the Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center in Medford on July 1.

Josephine was born in Boston, raised in East Boston and was a graduate of East Boston High School, Class of 1953. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Massachusetts College of Art, Class of 1957. Josephine worked as an art teacher for the Saugus Middle & High School for six years and several Melrose elementary schools for 15 years. She was inducted into the Saugus High School Hall of Fame, enjoyed fine art and was a longtime member of the North Shore Rock and Mineral Club. Josephine loved nature, the outdoors and hosting holiday meals for her family and friends.

She was the beloved wife of the late William I. MacIndewar for 45 years. She was the loving mother of William I. MacIndewar Jr. and Joseph F. MacIndewar and his wife Carolyn, all of Melrose. She was the cherished grandmother of William I. III, Abigail, Ania and Lea. She was the sister of the late Carmella D’Agostino and Joseph DiMauro Jr. She is also survived by many nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose, on Tuesday July 7. Josephine’s funeral was held at the Gately Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 8, followed by Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Church, Herbert Street, Melrose. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
