June-Nightingale-Obit-webSABATTUS, ME — June M. (MacNeil) Nightingale, 83, of Sabattus, Maine and formerly of North Reading, Stoneham and Melrose, died Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Montello Manor in Lewiston, ME. She was the wife of the late Richard T. Macneil.

Born in Boston on April 6, 1933,  she was the daughter of the late David and Margaret “Marie” (Iverson) MacNeil.

She was raised and attended school in Melrose and was a graduate of Melrose High School. June worked as a bookkeeper for Gaffey’s Funeral Home of Medford. She was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church in North Reading.

June was very generous to those less fortunate. When living in Melrose with a young family of her own, she would make clothing for some of her less fortunate neighbors. She had a strong sense of humor, always ready with a sharp come–back. She loved her pets, Brandy the chocolate lab and various birds over the years.

When she was younger she loved waterskiing, boating, square dancing and she was a very accomplished seamstress. She also enjoyed, reading, knitting, crocheting, gardening, cooking, following the Red Sox and spending time with her grandkids and great– grand kids.

Family members include her loving sons, Richard Macneil and his wife Maria of Wilmington, Scott Macneil and his wife Christine of North Reading and the late Thomas Macneil; her loving daughters, Cheryl Holmes and her late husband Jona of Sabuttus, Maine and Elizabeth Smith and her husband Glenn of Blackstone; her sister, Susan Kroon and her husband Lou of Melrose. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 10 great–grandchildren.

Her funeral will be held at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading, on Saturday, September 3 at 12:30 p.m. Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 11 to 12:30 p.m. Interment will be held in Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose at a later date.
