ObitLaFave-webNEWTON, N.H. — Kathleen A. (Gaffney) LaFave, 78, of Newton, N.H., died on Aug. 6 at Holy Family Hospital, Methuen.

Born in Wakefield, the daughter of the late Charles and Ann (Rosati) Gaffney, she was raised and educated in Wakefield and attended Wakefield High School. She worked as a sales clerk for 20 years at both Ames and King’s Department Stores.

A former longtime resident of Plaistow, N.H., Mrs. LaFave was a member of Holy Angels Church of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish. She enjoyed cooking, reading and traveling to Maine, where she had a second home at Old Orchard Beach.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, John L. LaFave; a son, Mark W. LaFave of Epping and his fiancée, Lucy Fitzpatrick ; a daughter and son-in-law, Laurel A. and Bill Proulx Jr. of Manchester; two brothers, Charles Gaffney and Paul Gaffney, both of Wakefield; a sister, Diane Paris of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; two grandchildren, Anna Proulx and William Proulx III and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Eileen Barrett and Priscilla Gaffney.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her calling hours on Wednesday, Aug. 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St. (Route 121A), Plaistow, N.H. A funeral service will follow at 1:15 in the funeral home. Burial will take place in Plaistow Cemetery, Plaistow, N.H.
