LYNNFIELD — Eight-eight Huckleberry Hill School fourth-graders’ academic achievements were recently celebrated during the annual moving on ceremony in the all-purpose room.
The theme of the ceremony was “Moving On to the Next Dimension.” The ceremony began with Huckleberry Hill School music teacher Kerrie Fraser leading the fourth-graders during performances of the songs “We are the Future,” “You Can Get It If You Really Want It” and “The Final Countdown” by 1980s hair metal band Europe.
“That was so good,” said Fraser.
“Awesome job fourth-graders,” added Huckleberry Hill School Principal Melissa Wyland.
Wyland welcomed the 88 fourth-graders, families, educators and school officials to the ceremony.
“After a few years of COVID and the COVID restrictions, we will never again take for granted the opportunity that we have to come together and celebrate these Huckleberry Heroes,” said Wyland.
The fourth-graders gave Huckleberry Hill’s teachers and staff a round of applause to thank them for guiding them over the last five years. The students also turned around and thanked their families for their love and support.
“All of your families’ support helped get you here today,” said Wyland.
Wyland congratulated Huckleberry Hill’s fourth-graders for moving on to Lynnfield Middle School.
“It was just five years ago when you entered kindergarten for the first time,” said Wyland. “Time really does fly when we are having fun. I am also glad that you were able to enjoy our brand new gymnasium while you were here. You also got to experience a whole new wing of new classrooms while you were here. You are now able to celebrate moving on together.”
Wyland said Huckleberry Hill School’s teachers and staff are “very proud” of the 88 fourth-graders.
“I don’t think those words say enough,” said Wyland. “It has been a pleasure watching you persevere through challenges, show kindness and generosity to others, demonstrate bravery in new situations, take academic risks and act as role models for the younger students. I hope you will treasure the relationships that you made here. I know we will, and we will never forget this time with you. Even though you will not be in our school building anymore, I hope you will always remember what we say: That Huckleberry Hill is a home away from home. It will continue to be that way for you as you move on.”
Wyland reminded the fourth-graders that, “It does not take super powers to save someone’s day.”
“Please go out there in this world and save people’s day,” said Wyland. “We believe in you, but more importantly, we hope that you believe in yourself. Even as a fourth-grader moving on, you have the power to make a difference in this world. I hope you will do that. I hope you will continue to take pride in what makes you unique and special, and celebrate and learn from the differences in those around you. This is the most inclusive class I have had the pleasure of working with. Continue that as you move forward.”
Wyland also encouraged the 88 fourth-graders to be “true” to themselves.
“Don’t let others negatively affect who you are as a person,” said Wyland. “Be kind, be respectful and be excellent citizens. I know that you will do great things. We look forward to hearing about your future successes and adventures.”
In closing, Wyland thanked the fourth-graders for “being such a wonderful group of Huckleberry Hill Heroes.”
“One of my favorite things to do as principal is being able to spend time with the fourth-graders,” said Wyland. “We have loved having you here. I have loved being your principal. Congratulations fourth-graders!”
After Wyland concluded her remarks, she was given a round of applause by the ceremony’s attendees.
Wyland along with fourth grade teachers Katherine Bider, Heather Clavin, Elisabeth George and Debra Tracy presented certificates to the 88 students. A large of number of the fourth-graders hugged their teachers while receiving their certificates.
Families, educators, school staff and administrators gave the fourth-graders a thunderous round of applause after they received their certificates.
Similar to previous years, the Huckleberry Hill moving on video was shown. The video included baby pictures and current pictures of the fourth-graders. The students also answered questions such as what do they want be when they grow up and what was their favorite Huckleberry Hill School memory.
Wyland thanked the Huckleberry Hill School PTO and the Moving On Committee for organizing “this amazing day for our students.”
After the ceremony concluded, the 88 fourth-graders went outside to take photos with their parents and friends. The students also enjoyed field day.
