BELMONT — The Lynnfield High baseball team rolled into Belmont on Friday for the Brendan Grant Memorial Tournament with a 13-game winning streak in tow and left town two games later on Saturday with a trophy and a 15-game streak to end the regular season with an overall record of 18-2.

The Pioneers, who were ranked No. 1 in the final D4 power rankings released on Friday, found out their seeding for the tournament on Wednesday after press time.

Lynnfield beat two Middlesex League teams on their way to the Grant title. They topped Burlington 8-6 on Friday and cruised to a 10-4 win over Reading in the championship game.

The high-powered Pioneer offense, averaging 7.9 runs per game this year, is certainly in the right groove heading into the postseason. Following their 8-run game against the Red Devils, Lynnfield kept it rolling against the Rockets following the lead of Madux Iovinelli and Nick Groussis who each had 2 hits and drove in multiple runs.

Iovinelli’s 3-run homer in the 1st gave the Pioneers an early lead and Drew George cleared the bases with a 3-run double in the 6th to seal it.

The Most Valuable Player Award was presented to Tyler Adamo who went 5-for-9 in the two games with 3 doubles and 5 runs scored. The junior captain also closed both games for Lynnfield, earning a save against Burlington.
