LYNNFIELD — Two members of the Lynnfield High softball team were named to the Cape Ann League All-Stars this spring. The All-Stars were selected by the league coaches.

Junior Ava Gamache was named a First-Team All-Cape Ann League player for the second-straight season.

“It’s hard to put into words how good she was this year,” said Pioneers first-year head coach Hector Longo. “She had a great year on offense but she was even better on defense.”

The third baseman finished hitting .457 (37 for 81) with three homers, 33 runs scored and 21 runs batted in. She had a .506 on-base percentage.

Sophomore shortstop Morgan Hubbard was a Second-Team All-CAL choice as she made her first-ever All-Star appearance.

Hubbard hit .519 (29 for 56) with 21 runs scored and 15 RBI. Her OBP was .672 as she led the team in batting average and on-base percentage. Hubbard missed four games with a broken nose but came back to go 3 for 6 in the two playoff games.

“Her season was flat-out amazing,” said Longo “She’s an athlete, whose first sport is softball, and it shows. She had a freak accident, but she came back in the tournament and was her own dynamic self. She’s a highlight-reel defender, regardless of where she plays, and offensively might be as good as it gets in our league. She practices and plays the game hard and has a ton of fun doing it.”

The Pioneers reached the second round of the MIAA Division 4 state tournament before losing to host Uxbridge, 9-1, in the Round of 16 game back on June 6 to end the year at 12-10.

In the Cape Ann League, the Pioneers went 6-8 as they came in 5th place in the Kinney Division.
