AMESBURY — In their season-opening meet on Sept. 11, the Lynnfield High girls’ cross country team lost at Amesbury 25-30.
“That course is very hilly and it was a hot, sunny day,” pointed out Pioneers first-year head coach Liane Cook. “I was really happy with the way the girls performed even though we lost. It was a very competitive meet.”
The first Pioneer to finish the 2.9 mile course was senior co-captain, Gabby Bottaro who came in second overall at 21:56. She was followed by senior Caitlin Buoniconti who was fifth at 22:39 while senior captain Kaila George was sixth at 22:53.
Junior Abby Lopez placed 8th as she had a time of 23:25 while sophomore Maeve Wertz, who captured 9th, rounded out the team’s top five at 23:45.
The Pioneers will look to go to 1-1 on Sept. 18 as they visit Manchester-Essex. That meet will start at 4 p.m.
