LYNNFIELD — It was a successful Senior Day for the Lynnfield High softball team on May 22 as they beat visiting Masconomet 12-7 to get a season split against the Chieftains.

With that win, the Pioneers finished the regular season at 11-7 overall and 9-7 in the Cape Ann League. They ended up in third place in the CAL Kinney division behind North Reading and Triton.

Reilly Ganter was the winning pitcher improving to 10-7 in the circle. She went all seven innings allowing two earned runs, five hits, five walks and she struck out three.

“She pitched much better than the final score would indicate,” said Pioneers manager Peter Marinelli. “We made eight errors and we can’t get away with that in the state tournament.”

The Pioneers scored twice in the first and second innings but the Chieftains took the lead scoring five runs in the top of the third.

Lynnfield took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth plating six runs.

Masco scored twice in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to three but the Pioneers matched that with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

“We hit the ball really well,” said Marinelli, whose squad had nine hits.

Chloe Shapleigh led the way going 3 for 4 with a team-high four runs batted in. Allie Wing was the team’s other multiple hitter going 2 for 4 with an RBI. Ganter helped her own cause with a two-run single and then had a third RBI on a fielder’s choice.

Jenna Brodigan also knocked in three runs with a two-run single and a fielder’s choice.

Taylor Tringali and Wing, the two Pioneer seniors, were both honored before the game.

Lynnfield will have this week off and then find out on June 3 who they will open up with in the first round of the Division 3 North state tournament.

Last spring, the Pioneers reached the Div. 3 North quarterfinals before losing to Amesbury to end the year at 12-9.
