A loving mother, grandmother and musician
WOBURN — Ruby Anna Browne (Brown) passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, Oct. 10, 2021, after a brief period of illness surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.
She was born in Dorchester on March 17, 1929 to Florence Jenkins and Horace Brown. She celebrated her marriage to Whitman S. Browne, Jr. (2008) every day for 57 years.
Ruby was a meticulous and astute businessperson, who facilitated all aspects of her husband’s human resources company. She was active in the Wakefield-Lynnfield United Methodist Church as a founding member, choir member and volunteer for countless charity projects, most recently Project Linus. She was accomplished in all forms of handwork, but her favorite, and the one in which she was the most prolific, was quilting. She was a member of the North Parish Quilters Guild and the New England Quilt Museum and she always looked forward to her bi-annual “Quilt-Away Weekends” with her friends.
An accomplished musician herself, and a mother of three musicians, Ruby was always singing standards, pop, classical and, occasionally, rock and roll. She loved the seaside, her friends, her home, and the Patriots. She would leave coffee hour early after church to get home in time for a Sunday 1 p.m. kick-off.
She was the loving mother to Whitman III (Charlotte) of Holbrook; Jeffrey (Barbara) of Braintree; and Laurel of Mabou, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. She was the beloved Nanna of Sophie (Michael) Jones of West Bridgewater, Emma (Matthew) Cibere of Sandwich and Great-Nanna Ruby to Monroe.
As per Ruby’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services at this time. The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date. Donations in Ruby’s name may be made to Project Linus or the charity of a person’s choice.
Arrangements are in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home in Wakefield.
