Enjoyed sewing, music and golf

ATKINSON, NH — Mary-Ann R. (Rossano) Casey, 87 of Atkinson, NH formerly of Melrose passed away peacefully at Sunrise of Lynnfield on December 26.

She was born on October 9, 1937 in Chelsea and raised in East Boston. Mary-Ann spoke of

many fond memories of their Neptune Rd. home surrounded by her parents Frank and Hazel

Rossano; her sister Florence; and generations of her Italian extended family. The family moved to Melrose where Mary-Ann was a graduate of MHS Class of ‘55 and met her husband Richard J. Casey. Working out of high school as a bookkeeper in Boston, she was able to afford her “blue bomber” convertible car which was the start and love of many beautiful cars including an emerald green Ford Galaxy 500 convertible, a black Lincoln Town Car and Cadillac.

Her life was one that was full and well-rounded. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and crochet. Loved

music and played the piano, a girl scout leader and hockey mom. Cherished several cats and

family pets. Throughout the years she played golf in the summer and skied in the winter. Many

years after high school, Mary-Ann worked diligently keeping the Class of ‘55 together for

reunions and classmate data. Her Catholic faith kept her connected with St. Mary’s School and

Church of Melrose as well as the Council on Aging. Following in her father’s footsteps, she was an advocate and area director for Big Island Pond Corp which supports the environmental security of the lake for future generations to enjoy.

She was a devoted wife to “Chick” of 62 yrs, a loving mother to her children, a beloved

“Grammie” to her five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her home in Melrose and

especially the NH lake house was her happy place. There she enjoyed many years as a homemaker and was hostess to wonderful family holidays and celebrations, their business gatherings and welcoming anyone who visited with a feeling of comfort.

Visitation will be held 9 to 11 a.m. in the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. in the Gately Funeral Home. Following the funeral service we will be driving in procession to the Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
