MELROSE — On Saturday, June 30, the Town of Stoneham and the City of Melrose are partnering for a joint Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day.

The event will be held at Stoneham High School at 149 Franklin Street, Stoneham. From 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. you can drop off certain toxic household items that are not allowed in the trash. Proof of residency is required. Fees will primarily be determined by actual estimated total volume of hazardous waste not volume of containers themselves according to the following fee list:

• 1-3 gal. $ 20

• 4-10 gal. $ 30

• 11-25 gal. $ 60

Commercial hazardous waste will not be accepted.

Since the improper disposal of hazardous waste is dangerous for Department of Public Works employees and harmful to the environment, we encourage you to take advantage of this important event.

The event flier with details on what will and will not be accepted (and how to transport everything) can be printed as a PDF from the city’s household hazardous waste page. Please note that Melrose residents should bring dried latex paint (free), tires ($2-8) and propane tanks to the City Yard at 72 Tremont Street during regular hours of operation rather than to Stoneham on this hazardous waste day.

If you cannot attend this event but have household hazardous waste to dispose of, please consult the complete list of events in surrounding communities which welcome Melrose residents (times and fees may be restricted in each individual town – please contact them directly to ensure smooth drop-off).
