Dorie Withey elected 2025 School Committee Chair

 

COUNCILOR-AT-LARGE Leila Migliorelli was sworn in as City Council President by City Clerk Tanji Cifuni during the January 6, 2025 meeting of the Melrose City Council.

 

 

MELROSE — City Councilor-at-Large Leila Migliorelli was re-elected as City Council President in a unanimous vote of the City Council on Monday, January 6, 2025, with all nine City Councilors present voting in favor. This year will mark Migliorelli’s second consecutive term as the council president.

“I am grateful for my colleagues for placing their trust in me again to lead the Council in 2025,” said President Migliorelli. “I am hopeful that we can work together to effectively evaluate and deliberate the challenges and opportunities in front of us this year.”

The Council’s vote this week follows a School Committee reorganization meeting on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, during which School Committee Member Dorie Withey was elected for the first time as the Chair of the School Committee.

“I am honored to be serving as Chair of the Melrose School Committee,” said Chair Withey. “I am looking forward to collaborating with my colleagues and the community in order to both navigate the challenges and opportunities before us this year.”

City Council President Leila Migliorelli has lived in Melrose since 2015 and is serving her third term on the City Council. In addition to her part-time role on the Melrose City Council, she has worked for over two decades in nonprofits and higher education, currently employed as the Senior Director of Donor Relations & Stewardship at Tufts University. Migliorelli holds a master’s degree in Public Policy from Tufts University and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Providence College.

School Committee Chair Dorie Withey has lived in Melrose since 2016 and has served three years on the Melrose School Committee. She is an Elementary English Language Arts Program Director for Boston Public Schools, working with school leaders and teachers to implement research-based equitable literacy practices. Withey is a graduate of the University of Florida and the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
