WESTON—The Melrose High outdoor track teams earned some top times and brought home plenty of medals at the 2022 Weston Twilight Invitational at Weston High on May 7, 2022.

On the girls side, it was a great day for Melrose’s 2000m steeplechase team, with senior Charlotte Tysall prevailing among all competition, clinching a gold medal in event while teammate Anna Mackey also medaled with with a 4th place. Melrose’s Rachel Brook rounded out a top 15 finish with a 13th place effort.

Melrose’s 1600 sprint relay team took a bronze medal with a third place finish by Isabelle Chardavoyne, Annie Bailey, Cadence L’Heureux and Anna Mackey. Melrose also did well in field events, including the javelin an event that saw Kate Sikkema place 6th followed by Autumn Whelan and Ruby Rosnov.

High jump had a very strong effort by Scarlet Timm, who placed 8th. Melrose running events were also a highlight thanks to their effort in the 400, as Autumn Whelan came in 15th and Katie Sikkema was 19th. In the 800, Melrose saw quality efforts from Darby Thompson and Juliet Moore (24th and 26th respectively). In the 1 mile Cadence L’Heureux placed 18th and in the 2 mile Jillian Bakey was 21st. In the triple jump, Melrose saw a 12th place finish from Megan Radzik and 16th finish from Sofia Weissman.

Distance races continued to be a strong suit for Melrose, as Autumn Whelan finished 15th in the 400 and Katie Sikkema 19th. In the 900 Darby Thompson had Melrose’s best time with a 24th finish and right behind her was Juliet Moore in 26th. Melrose’s mile runners also were standouts with Cadence L’Heureux coming in 18th in the mile and Jillian Bakey 21st in the 2 mile.

On the boys side, Melrose saw Ryan Cotugno capture a medal in the 800m with a fifth place finish of 2:08.99. Melrose also medaled in the 2000m thanks to work of Ellis lourilli-Hough, 4th, and Will Dugan, 5th.

Gabe Buffonge had Melrose’s best time in the 110 hurdles with a 9th place finish.

This week both teams will host their last home meet against Stoneham on Wednesday (post deadline) before taking part in an invitational over the weekend in Andover. Stay tuned.
