ARLINGTON — Irene L. (Lutes) Pollock, 93, resident of Arlington, and former longtime resident of Melrose, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2019 at Sunrise of Arlington.
Born in Old Town, Maine on October 24, 1926, Irene was the daughter of the late Walter and Jenny (nee Steves) Lutes. Irene grew up in Old Town and graduated from Old Town High School two years early. She was a cheerleader for Old Town High.
She moved to Boston where she met her beloved Walter. They would go on to get married and share 60 wonderful years together. They initially settled in Tewksbury before moving to Melrose to raise their family.
Irene took classes to become a Title Examiner. She eventually struck out on her own, running her own business. She worked as a Title Examiner until her retirement when she was 75.
Family was very important to Irene. She was deeply devoted to Walter, her children, and her mother. As her mother aged, Irene became the caretaker for her mother, and did that lovingly for many years. She was very active in her children’s lives, and on occasion, one could find her and Walter out dancing, one of Irene’s favorite activities.
Traveling was equally loved by Irene. She traveled around the world, with two of her favorite destinations being Russia and Australia. She loved learning about different cultures and traditions. She also had a knack for making lasting friendships wherever she went. If she wasn’t traveling, one could find her knitting or reading a good book.
Irene lived a full life and will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends.
Irene was the beloved wife of the late Walter R. Pollock with whom she shared 60 years of marriage. Devoted mother of John W. Pollock and his wife Lois of Belmont, and Sharon G. Yates of Melbourne, Fla. Cherished grandmother of John Pollock, Genevieve Pollock, Jolyon Yates, Brendan Yates, Courtney Yates, Spencer Yates and great-grandmother of Anthony, Izzy, Abby, and Nathan.
