An excellent baker known for her cookies and pizza

MELROSE — Melba (Finamore) Belmonte, 97, passed away at her home in Melrose on November, 24, 2021. Melba was born in Boston on June 16, 1924 to the late Gaetano and Antoinetta (Simonelli) Finamore. She was raised in East Boston and graduated from East Boston High School before moving to Melrose in 1961.

Mrs. Belmonte was an excellent baker and was very well known for her cookies and pizza. She loved taking trips with her late husband Michael to California to visit her sister Virginia and going out dancing every Saturday night. Melba was also the bookkeeper for Belmonte Plumbing in Melrose for many years.

Mrs. Belmonte was the beloved wife of the late Michael M. Belmonte. Loving mother of Michael M. Belmonte, Donald C. “Donny” Belmonte and Mary A. Belmonte and her partner, Stephen Leybourne, all of Melrose. Caring sister of Virginia Curley and the late Donald Finamore and Leo Finamore. Proud adopted grandmother of Tracey Viselli, Brandon and Taylor O’Neil; Thomas and Josephine Vitiello; Max, Michael and Luke Viselli and Michelle Aluia. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Visitation were held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Monday, November 29 from 4 – 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial was held at Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St. Melrose, on Tuesday, November 30 at 11 a.m. Followed by the interment at Puritan Lawn Cemetery in Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
