MELROSE — Patricia A. (Gowell) McDevitt, 82, of Melrose, died February 13, 2020.
She was born in Boston on May 12, 1937 to Joseph and Bertha (Johnson) Gowell. Patricia was raised in Malden and graduated from the Cheverus School. She always remained involved with the Cheverus School, and was involved with the planning of its 100th Anniversary celebration.
Mrs. McDevitt was a longtime member of the North Shore Irish Association and always attended their dances on Saturday nights with her husband Leo. They were also both very active in Melrose Youth Hockey, helping out any way they could. Patricia also worked for over 20 years at Gilbert Insurance.
She was happiest spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved shopping for them and attending their different events and games. Patricia always cherished the annual family reunion at Lake Sunapee, N.H. In her spare time she also enjoyed going to the theatre with friends, and taking trips to Florida.
Patricia was the beloved wife of the late Leo C. McDevitt. Loving mother of Diane Amato and her husband Paul of Melrose, Judie Quinlan and her husband Ed of Abington, and Tom McDevitt and his wife Deb of Billerica. Cherished grandmother of Lindsay, Caitlin, Justin, David (DJ), Kyle, Luke, Grace, Alexa, and Cailey. Proud great-grandmother of Jayda, Avery, and Liam. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours were held on Sunday, Feb. 16 at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose. Funeral procession was from the Gately Funeral Home on Monday, Feb 17, followed by a funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church, 9 Herbert St., Melrose. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
