Longtime member of Aldersgate Methodist Church, Food Pantry volunteer

Mildred-Schofield-Obit-webNORTH READING — Mildred G. “Millie” (Dutton) Schofield, 91, of North Reading and formerly of Lynnfield, died peacefully at her home on Friday, Oct. 30, 2015. She was the wife of the late Arthur W. Schofield.

Born in Suffield, Conn. on May 16, 1924, she was the daughter of the late James and Julia (Pierce) Dutton. Millie was a graduate of Malden High School, Class of 1943.

She worked in the Treasurer’s Office at Malden City Hall. She worked as a Secretary for the School Year Abroad Program at Phillips Academy and Registrar’s Office at Merrimack College.

She was a resident of North Reading for the past 55 years. Millie was a member of Wakefield/Lynnfield United Methodist Church and a longtime member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in North Reading, where she was a member of Women’s Fellowship and Friendship Group. Some years ago, she was a member of the North Reading Garden Club and Merrimack College Bowling League.

Millie was a friendly and caring person who freely volunteered her time in service to others. She fiercely loved her family and dear friends and they in turn loved her. Millie was very active in her church, where for many years, she sang in the choir. She was a member of the CCS Board and volunteered at the Food Pantry. She loved to travel and to read. Millie also loved flowers and beautiful music.

Family members include her loving children, Jane Regan and her husband Jerry of North Reading; William Schofield of Tyngsborough, Robin Schofield and his wife Kris of Lancaster and the late Calvin Schofield; her daughter–in–law, Ann Schofield of Ipswich; six grandchildren, 10 great–grandchildren and five great–great–grandchildren. Millie was the youngest of nine children, all of whom have predeceased her.

Her funeral was held at the Wakefield–Lynnfield United Methodist Church, 273 Vernon St., Wakefield on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Calling hours were held on Monday, Nov. 2 at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow St., North Reading. Burial was in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Peabody.
